I was on the bus going home and this lady sitting next to me asked me where I am from and then asked if I'm from Pakistan. I told her where I'm from and she explained that a person can never tell in this city. I agreed but was thinking, my skin is too light for me to be from Pakistan. Then we spoke about other stuff.

Pakistan? Wow, that's pretty specific for a random guess. For some reason, people always think I'm Russian. Then again, Poland is pretty close to Russia, so maybe I should just say they're right.

I always get a look of disbelief when I say I'm jewish. I really couldn't tell you why. I think people have this stereotype of jews with big noses and the whole deal. I'm short and have lighter hair and fair skin and blue eyes, and a tiny little button nose. Maybe the stork dropped me off?

Sara, People do tend to generalize.
Have only gotten some mistakes when people try to place me on the Jewish Geography spectrum, but that is mostly because I speak French and a French speaking Lubavitcher who is not on shlichus is assumed to be of North African - Sefardi origin regardless of his appearance.
