In life, we can either let our experiences make us bitter, or we can channel that feeling towards being a good example in order to improve things.

Different but equal

Ever notice how funny some studies are? Like for instance, 'Scientists have found that men and women are different. ' I know they were talking about mentally and emotionally but still it's funny because you just have to look at how the two act to notice that there's a difference. I guess though that by doing studies and seeing results, it makes it more official. Which is a good thing because I found that some people have a hard time accepting that the two are different and so I can say to them, 'Hey, scientists have proven it.'

I remember reading something in a school textbook and it was talking about equallity between the two genders. And it was asking are men really more this and are women really more that. What I get from that message is that men and women have to be the same to be equal. I don't know if that's what they mean or not, but if it is then they don't understand that the two genders can be both different and equal. The reason for the difference is so they compliment each other and contribute what they each have. If they both had everything, then there wouldn't be a need for the other gender, other than procreation. Plus, it's Not like men are Only like this and women are Only like that. They have basically the same qualities like they can both be agressive and nurturing. It's just that they have different quantities of it in order to suit their roles.

Very true. Funny how so much research has been done and we knew it all along not to mention all the money that was spent. The feminists think that guys are said to be better so therefor the women need to be equal they have no clue that this is not what it is about. Wooo second blog I got to post first in tonight.

(now can you prove it?)

Hmmm I wonder if it can be proven on blogland too

Social, on some things they're right, like about that women should be respected as much as men. But some things they took too far like when they try to be like men instead of appreciating who they are.

Sabra, thanks. can I prove it? no. but go to a preschool and notice how the girls play house while the boys wrestle on the carpet. Of course sometimes the boys join the girls and sometimes the girls hit someone but the differences are still apparent.

David, maybe

I'm glad they have these scientific researches, even though it's obvious that both genders are very different
My Madrich told me that women never put the cap back on bottles of shampoo, toothpaste etc...
He told me to teach me that women’s brain just function differently, and when we'd have an argument I should remember that.

After the wedding I checked this theory and sure enough, caps everywhere and spilled bottles as well.
It was a good feeling.

Prag - lol

although not my MIL!!

men and women think so differently it can sometimes drive me crazy...

there is no doubt there
but as you say - we have the same basic qualities..

Correct it's always like that sometimes they are correct and sometimes not. Like you said lots of the research we already knew without them doing the research.

I always found that the super-feminists kind of do themselves in with their own theories. After all, if it is desirable to be able to be everything that a man is, doesn't that make a man better? Wanting to be exactly like a man is effectively admitting that being a woman is not good enough.

It will be a sad day indeed when there will be unisex bathrooms.

Down with equality!

Prag, lol, that's funny -
I usually put the cap back on though. But I agree that the two genders function differently like in regards to communication and thinking.

The only, I know what you mean.

Social, exaclty

JT - yep, in my opinion, a true feminist appreciates what she has instead of going after what someone else has. We just need to look deeper at our role and realize that it is truely great.

Kasamba, lol, no only down with sameness but keep equally.

This goes along the same lines of my blog a few weeks ago on parshas korach. I could never understand why women were so offended with nashim daatan kalos, when you look at the flip side and their increased bina. We each have our strengths and weaknesses, but that doesn't make either gender better or worse overall.

A Frum Idealist said...

then again, maybe women were offended by that statement, because stupid guys used it to put women down and never discussed or chose to ignore the flip side. ;-)

Yea, that's probrably what happened. Guys rubbing it in their face.
Also, sometimes what happens is a certain lady reads it and eventhough they read all of it, they just focus on what upsets them and don't pay attention to the positive stuff that's there like the increased bina that you mentioned.

right. :-D

The point is that we should focus on the beauty and greatness of our own role instead of trying to be something else. Some of the things we do may look small but it's actually greater than what the men do. No offence to the men. Just trying to make a point.

I'm in total agreement. I once heard an amazing shiur given by Rabbi Leff who was talking about jealousy. He said we have to look at our lives as if we're in a play or a broadway show. The jester has a whole wardrobe full of clothes and the King usually only has but one (albeit fancy) robe. Should the king complain? The fact of the matter is that we were given roles and these are our roles to play. Everyone has a different role, and only when we all come together as one do we achieve what we are destined to.
Shalom=peace, doesn't mean everything the same. It comes from the same shoresh as shalem. Whole or complete. Interlocking pieces that come together to form the whole.

Beautifully said. Reminds me of an article I read by someone, called, Two Halves of a Whole.

That was me! I wrote that article.
No I didn't. I was just kidding.

I think most scientific studies are rediculous. So many things that common sense tells you does not need a scientific study. You don't have to look at personalities to see that men and women are different, all you have to do is look at their body parts. Also with these studies, one day a glass of wine is good, one day it is not, one day coffee is good, one day it is not. Common sense would also tell you that excercise is good but you need science to tell you that.

So true, :)

I guess people like it because then they feel their own info is correct.
